This article is about my recent photography project, where I photographed business headshots for commercial bankers at State Bank of Cross Plains.
Firstly, their marketing team reaching out for me to put a headshot photography bid together for 60+ bank employees.
Figuring out the approach for business headshots
Secondly, we’ve discussed the feel and the mood for the headshots. This is where I usually ask the client to do some homework prior to the headshot session. I ask to come up with three words that they want to portray and emphasize in the final business headshots. In this case, marketing team gave me “approachable, friendly and trustworthy”.
Location scouting/ building walk-through
After that, marketing team and I met to walk the photoshoot location. We wanted to make sure it would work well for the headshot session. As a result, I was able to familiarize myself with layout and possible issues that might arise on a date of shoot. In other words, it’s in everybody’s best interest to avoid unwelcome surprises on a photoshoot day.
Business headshot execution
On one hand, 60+ employees could be photographed in one day. I’ve done it in one day before.
But on the other hand, if quality results are important, it’s a multiple day project.
Couple reasons for that.
First, I prefer to photograph headshots tethered. This process helps me get the most out of the photoshoot right there on the spot. It also gives client a good idea what final image will be. See more about the process of photographing tethered and its advantages in this blog post.
Second, with larger groups it’s difficult to make people’s schedules work in one, or even two, day frame. So, I right away knew it will be a multiple day project.
As a result, it took me 4 full days at the Middleton branch to go over 60 business headshots of commercial lenders, wealth managers, mortgage offices, office managers and agricultural lenders.
All professional business headshots above were taken at the newest State Bank of Cross Plains branch in Middleton, WI.
